description:
The works carried out on the church were aimed at improving the seismic performance of the building by strengthening the structural connections and the static performance of the various members of the building. Steel tie rods were made to the springers of the arches of the central nave both in the transverse and longitudinal direction, repairs were carried out on the cracks on the wall partitions and intrados reinforcement of the vaulted roofs through plating with steel mesh, the walls were repaired with stitch-and-stuck joints and subsequently filled with lime-based mortar, - reinforced seams were made on the masonry uprights of the badly damaged bell tower. At the same time as these interventions aimed purely at improving the seismic performance of the building, architectural and plant restoration works were carried out; As regards the architectural intervention, on the basis of a careful historical analysis that started from the interiors of the early 1900s up to the latest interventions of the 1990s, we tried to summarise and re-propose the architectural and material identity characteristics of the church. The aim of the intervention was to restore the original appearance of the interior of the church. We therefore re-proposed a handmade terracotta flooring, which was originally present, just as we maintained the plaster decorations which were also present at the beginning of the 1900s. A radiant heating system divided into three zones was installed under the floor, with the aim of improving both internal comfort and optimising energy consumption. As for the choice of interior colour, a soft shade of turquoise with very light shades was taken into consideration as a base, while the creation of the bands, skirtings and decorations with a more decisive colour but always very desaturated and quite light. These colours were not chosen at random as originally the church in the 40s was painted with lime white and grey/blue bands. Most likely deriving from the immaculate conception. The original internal paths and spaces were re-proposed, through the opening of two arched doors that allow direct connection to the convent; A new glass entrance compass has been inserted, adequate and sized for access by people with disabilities. Another intervention, the moving of the organ to a side chapel, has allowed the choir and presbytery to return to their original dimensions, giving these rooms a lot of light and more space.
